Planned Giving Options
Each planned gift offers unique benefits. Below are common options available to our donors:
Gifts Through Your Will
ncluding a gift in your will lets you maintain control of your assets during your lifetime while making a meaningful contribution to the future of Gordon Memorial Health Services.
You can choose to give:
- A specific dollar amount
- A percentage of your estate
- The residue (what remains after other bequests are made)
Although there are no immediate tax benefits, a bequest may help reduce estate taxes in some cases. Always talk to your tax professional or accountant before making decisions.
Retirement Plans
Tax-deferred retirement plans such as IRAs, 401(k)s, or 403(b)s are smart tools for retirement. However, when passed to heirs, these plans may be subject to high taxes. Naming Gordon Memorial Hospital Foundation as your beneficiary avoids those taxes and directs the full value of your plan to benefit rural healthcare.
Your plan administrator can provide the necessary forms to name the Foundation as a beneficiary.
U.S. Savings Bonds
Savings bonds are another excellent option. If inherited by individuals, bonds are taxed as income. But when donated to a nonprofit like the Gordon Memorial Hospital Foundation, those taxes are avoided, making your gift more impactful.
Life Insurance Gifts
Even if you don’t have a large estate, life insurance can provide a significant legacy. There are three ways you can give through life insurance:
- Name Gordon Memorial Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary
- Request a beneficiary form from your insurance provider and list the Foundation as your primary or secondary beneficiary.
- Transfer ownership of an existing policy
- If you have a policy you no longer need, consider transferring ownership to the Foundation. You may be eligible for a charitable tax deduction.
- Create a new policy for giving
- You can take out a new policy and name the Foundation as both owner and beneficiary. Your premium payments become tax-deductible charitable gifts.
