Mary Ann Fanning, CNP Joins GMHS Provider Staff

Monday, September 29, 2014

Gordon Memorial Health Services is pleased to announce their newest Provider, Mary Ann Fanning, CNP. Mary Ann is quite familiar with this area and the people of the community.

She and her husband have lived on their ranch just East of Martin for over 44 years. Many people may remember her not as a Nurse Practitioner or even as an RN but as a Music teacher. “For many years I taught elementary school and music in the surrounding communities. Teaching is something that has always been my passion,” stated Fanning.  She decided to go back to school and switch careers in the late 1990’s and got her education to become an RN. “Shortly after obtaining my RN license I started working as an RN at Gordon Memorial Hospital in the early 2000’s. From there, I decided I wanted to become a nurse educator and took on the role as well as administrator for the surrounding communities,” stated Fanning. From there she gradually took classes and obtained her education until she reached her ultimate goal of being a Nurse Practitioner. “I really enjoy teaching people. Whether it is through being a Nurse Practitioner or music. Educating people is really in my blood,” said Fanning.

When she is not educating patients or teaching music to children, she is enjoying the company of her 8 grandchildren. “We really enjoy spending time with all 8 of them, and of course I still have quite the fondness for music.”

Gordon Memorial has been a nice fit for her and one that has been an easy transition. “When I worked here back in the 2000’s the connections made back then were like a magnetic beacon to come and practice here. I am impressed with the facilities and medical support team here at Gordon Memorial. I appreciate all of the enthusiasm of the medical team here and of the community” Mary Ann saw her first patient on the 25 of August and is currently seeing patients in both the Gordon Clinic and Rushville Clinic. “This is such a great community to be a part of and I’m so glad to be a part of it and have the opportunity to reconnect with people here.”
